Travelling across Colombo and its surrounding suburbs is becoming more convenient with the introduction of the Lanka Metro Transit network. The newly announced Metro bus routes connect several major residential, commercial, educational and transport hubs across the Colombo metropolitan area.

With routes extending from Makumbura, Millennium City, Kadawatha, Panadura, Ekala and Kahathuduwa into Colombo and its surrounding areas, the network offers passengers more direct connections and frequent services.

*The supplied Lanka Metro Transit graphics show different distance figures for CM08, so passengers should check the latest official route information before travelling.

CM01 – Makumbura to Pettah

The CM01 service connects Makumbura with Pettah through several important suburbs and government/administrative areas.

Major stops include Makumbura, Kottawa, Pannipitiya, Kalalgoda Junction, Thalawathugoda, Isurupaya, Palam Thuna Junction, Battaramulla, Sethsiripaya, Diyatha, NAITA, Rajagiriya, Ayurveda Junction, Castle Hospital, Singer Mega – Colombo 8, Wijerama Halt, Hedges Court, Maradana, Colombo Fort and Pettah.

This route provides a useful connection for commuters travelling from the Kottawa and Battaramulla areas towards central Colombo.

CM02 – Millennium City to Colombo Fort

The CM02 route covers approximately 22.3 km, connecting Millennium City and Colombo Fort.

Key stops include Millennium City, Athurugiriya Hospital, Athurugiriya Town, Nisaco Mall, Hokandara Junction, Arangala Junction, Malabe Bus Stand, Thalahena Junction, Thalangama Junction, Maga Neguma, Sethsiripaya, Diyatha, NAITA, Rajagiriya, Castle Hospital, Town Hall, Union Place, Nawaloka Bus Stop, Regal Cinema, Colombo Fort and Pettah.

For people travelling from Athurugiriya, Malabe and Battaramulla, this creates another direct public transport option into central Colombo.

CM03 – Makumbura to Kadawatha

At approximately 34.8 km, CM03 provides a cross-city connection between Makumbura and Kadawatha.

The route passes through Kottawa, Pannipitiya, Maharagama, Maharagama Hospital, Nawinna, Nugegoda, Kirulapone, Narahenpita Junction, Army Hospital, Borella, Campbell Park, Dematagoda, Orugodawatta, Kelaniya University, Kiribathgoda and Mahara Junction before reaching Kadawatha.

This is particularly useful because passengers can travel between major southern and northeastern suburbs without necessarily travelling through Colombo Fort.

CM04 – Dematagoda to Panadura

The CM04 service covers approximately 28.7 km, connecting Dematagoda with Panadura along the coastal corridor.

Stops include Dematagoda Railway Station, Borella, Independence Arcade, Thummulla Junction, Bambalapitiya, Wellawatta, William Junction, Dehiwala, Mount Lavinia, Maliban Junction, Borupana Junction, German Tec Angulana, Katubedda Junction, Moratuwa, Egoda Uyana, Mahanama Junction, Panadura Base Hospital and Panadura.

The service connects several heavily travelled areas along the Colombo–Panadura corridor.

CM05 – Battaramulla to Ekala

CM05 connects Battaramulla and Ekala, covering approximately 29.9 km.

Its stops include Battaramulla Junction, Sethsiripaya, Diyatha, NAITA, Rajagiriya, Castle Hospital, Borella, Campbell Park, Dematagoda, Peliyagoda, Hekitta Junction, Wattala, Hendala, Mabola, Mahabage, Kandana, Weligampitiya, Ja-Ela, CTB Junction and Ekala.

This route is especially significant for commuters travelling between Battaramulla, Colombo's northern suburbs, Wattala, Kandana, Ja-Ela and Ekala.

CM06 – Kollupitiya Circular Route

Unlike the other point-to-point routes, CM06 is a 14 km circular service around Colombo.

It serves locations including Kollupitiya, Liberty, Public Library, Town Hall, Nelum Pokuna, Independence Square, Jawatta Road, Narahenpita, Havelock, W.A. Silva Mawatha, Wellawatta and Bambalapitiya.

The circular service could be particularly convenient for short urban journeys and passengers travelling between key commercial, educational, medical and residential areas within Colombo.

CM08 – Kahathuduwa to Pettah/Fort

CM08 connects Kahathuduwa with central Colombo, travelling through Kesbewa, Piliyandala, Werahera, Boralesgamuwa, Raththanapitiya, Pepiliyana, Kohuwala, Kirulapone, Havelock, Thimbirigasyaya, Thummulla and Kollupitiya, before continuing towards Galle Face, Fort and Pettah.

It provides another important public transport connection for passengers travelling from the rapidly developing southern suburbs towards Colombo.

Better Connections Across Greater Colombo

One of the most useful aspects of the Lanka Metro Transit network is that the routes do not simply connect suburban areas with Colombo Fort. Several services intersect major locations such as Battaramulla, Rajagiriya, Borella, Dematagoda, Nugegoda, Wattala, Kollupitiya and Wellawatta.

This creates opportunities for passengers to combine routes and reach more destinations across the Colombo metropolitan region.

For office workers, students, shoppers and other daily commuters, frequent and well-connected bus services can also provide an alternative to relying entirely on private vehicles.

Plan Your Journey

Passengers should check the latest operating schedules, fares, exact stopping points and service updates before travelling, as route information and operating arrangements may change.

With connections stretching from Kahathuduwa and Makumbura in the south to Kadawatha and Ekala in the north, and Athurugiriya and Malabe in the east, the new Lanka Metro Transit routes represent a significant addition to public transport connectivity across Greater Colombo.
